Lifestyle: Throw Back Thursday

Look how happy we look!

I spent a lot of this week reminiscing over past holidays.  I think it's due to the cold weather setting in, it's making me wish it was summer again! What I would give to be back here in this photo, with my sister (and a rather questionable camel).

If you haven't guessed already this was taken on our little trip to Dubai.  Stupidly we decided to go during the hottest month of the year and paid for it in sweat!
Upside-the resort was empty! we basically had the whole hotel to ourselves.

This holiday was such an experience and Dubai is definitely one of the places I would like to revisit and would recommend it to anyone- its one of those holidays you need to tick off your bucket list.

Thank you Dubai, for the most amazingly hilarious memories with my sister.

Lifestyle: New social media Alert! Wantfeed

Okay so I know I am fairly new to this whole 'social media' malarky (it doesn't take much to confuse me when I try to link Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter - god give me strength! - with my blog posts) but OH.MY.GOD I am absolutely loving Wantfeed.

A new exciting bookmarking social platform very similar to Pinterest but even better???....YES PLEASE

If, like me you are totally obsessed with creating hundreds of lists of things you want, things you need to buy, Christmas present ideas (the list is endless) and the number of tabs on your internet browser is seriously threatening to kill your laptop then read on...

In the lead up to Christmas this year I thought it would be a good idea to put together a little 'wishlist' for friends and family to get inspiration for what to buy me (I'm not greedy - just really hard to buy for!)  I instantly thought of creating a board on Pinterest and sending it round to my peeps but that got annoying because only a couple were on Pinterest and the rest didn't 'get it'.

Then, as if by magic I found Wantfeed- my problems were solved!

I first heard about this new social media platform through Hannah Maggs on YouTube (check out her channel) and subsequently the Michalak Family Diaries, turns out that Hannah's husband Stef is the brains behind the website - thanks Stef! :)

The site in a nutshell is basically this:
You create little wish lists
You copy and paste links to your most wanted items on the internet
Enter a few basics (price, shop etc)
Wham bam thank you ma'am there it is!
You can even link up with other Wantfeed users - find your friends and see what they are lusting after this season!

If you are feeling nosey and want to see my current loves click here.

Definitely go check out this site, it's so handy being able to see images of your wishlist without having to laboriously save each link into your bookmarks tab.

Christmas: It's Christm-etsy time! top10 Christmas Decor on Etsy

It's CHRISTMAS!!! (well, almost)

It is the time of year where we are starting to think about this year's festive decorations and there is that feeling of 'Christmas is on its way' in the air.  Festive films are already showing on TV, classic Christmas songs are playing in the shops and soon enough the tree will be going up, the candles will be lit, the mince pies come out and the family pile in.

Exciting or what!

I absolutely love Christmas, it is arguably my favourite time of year so expect to see lots of Christmas inspired posts over the coming weeks.  The countdown begins, only 40 days to go!

I am a huge advocate of handmade and vintage things and my favourite place to shop is Etsy.  Some of you may have heard of this site but it is fairly new in the UK. It is a great marketplace for crafty little souls to share and sell their creations.

Here are my top 10 handmade Christm-etsy finds (see what I did there?)
1. Advent Calendar Bags by Fancy That Loved
2. Golden Sleigh Removable Wall Decal by Little Sticker Boy
3. Paper Christmas Wreath by Tali Lane
4. Vintage Christmas Tags by Amaretto
5. Forest Animals 12 Pack Greetings Cards by Jahna Vashti
6. Noel Christmas Sign by The Back Porch Shoppe
7. Burlap Christmas  Pillow by He She Chic
8. Rudolph Hessian Santa Sack by Scriptingle
9. Christmas Holiday Print by Mooseberry Paper Co.
10. Birch Candle Holders by My Garden Gate

Upcycling: Before and After, White ornate mirror

This gorgeous mirror was commissioned by a customer of mine.  She was after a large ornate mirror and sent me lots of pictures of the type she wanted.  After scouring the internet and my usual second hand hot spots I found this lovely bevelled mirror with a very ornate gold frame.
I painted it in my trusty ASCP 'Old White' (two layers as the lighter shades are much thinner in consistency), distressed it with lots of sandpaper so some of the gold came through and then waxed it with ASCP Clear Wax.
I have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with mirrors and I loved this piece so much I wanted to keep it for myself!

Lifestyle: Top 10 Quotes to live your life by

I have wanted to do this post for a while now and it has taken me some time to carefully pick the best quotes that I find the most helpful when times get tough.  I really think that no matter what your problem, at least one of these will help.

If at times, those mountains just seem too big remember this. Believe it will happen and you can be sure that it will (with some hard work and dedication).

Laughter is the medicine of life.  If you are laughing it is impossible to feel sad and have negative feelings. Try to spend as much of your time laughing as possible. I can't stress enough how important it is to be happy.

This is something I have learned time and time again.  It is especially true when it comes to relationships.  Everyone has been through bad break ups and at that particular time in your life you feel like the world is over.  Trust me, it is most certainly not! Something good always comes from something bad, like meeting that perfect Mr Right who you wouldn't have met, if you hadn't had that bad break up!

People's emotions effect everyone around them, avoid people that make you feel stressed, sad or bored.  Surround yourself with the people that make you feel happy, loved and excited.

We all go through tough times in life and we all get hurt.  It is important to reflect on these moments and take away the positives.  What did you learn that will help you to prevent it happening again in the future?

If it is not obviously clear, take some time to figure out what you are passionate about.  Keep these things close to you, they are your calling in life.

I have seen enough death to know that life is extremely short.  Spend it with the ones you love, doing the things you love.

Worrying does nothing, it's pointless in fact.  Worrying will only make you feel worse about the situation and will not change the situation in any way.  Free your mind from worry and stress and instead focus your thoughts on positive, happy things.

We have all had those mornings where we have 'woken up on the wrong side of the bed' and it affects our whole day. Wake up in a bad mood and you have a bad day, so it has to work the other way round right?!
Start your day with good intentions and you will be sure to have a great day.

Don't let fear stop you from achieving your goals in life.  Sometimes you need to just go for it, when an opportunity arises you have to 'feel the fear and do it anyway' otherwise you will be left full of regret that you didn't say YES.

I hope you find these quotes as helpful as I have found them in my life.
Do you have any favourite quotes that help you through? Leave them in the comments :)
